Cadila launches 5-in-l Polycap

Ahmedabad: Cadila Pharmaceuticals, an Ahmedabad-based pharma major, has launched world's first 5-in-l wonder pill 'Polycap' in the domestic market. The pill is said to be a mixture of five drugs effective in preventing heart attacks by treating cardio-vascular diseases (CVD), high blood pressure, cholestrol, obesity and stress.
Polycap has been launched all over India this week. Cadila has prepared Polycap dossiers and will submit them for registration to authorities in nearly 45 countries in the next three months.
"The product has a huge potential for preventive action and we expect good response from doctors and users. Expectation is high due to credibility of extensive research which has gone into the development of Polycap," said Indravadan Modi, chairman of the Rs 800 crore Cadila Pharma.
Clinical trials were conducted in India at 51 centers on more than 2,000 people and the results of the trials, named TIPS (The Indian Polycap Study) were shared first with cardiologists in the US in March.
For regulated markets like the US, Europe and Japan, Modi said the company is negotiating with several multinational companies for getting necessary approvals from their respective drug administrations. Modi said in the next three years, Cadila hopes to sell Polycaps worth almost Rs 100 crore. Each 'Polycap' is worth Rs 14 and would replace a number of other prescription drugs.
